It is generally referred to as nitrile rubber nbr and is used in the sealing of oils and fuels. It also exhibits good flexural and abrasion resistance.
The acryl-nitrile content in the compound can vary between 20% and 50%, which leads to large variations in the chemical-physical behaviour of the rubber.
NBR does not have a good resistance to ageing in contact with oxygen and ozone, and the tendency to degrade increases with increasing operating temperature; for better use, it is prudent to avoid direct contact between the rubber and air, using it in immersion applications or maintaining a protective layer of lubricating oil.
